The MVA is 30 years old

From the CMLA to Deepika, via the MVA and the Centre Borelli

On January1, 1990, the Center for Mathematics and Their Applications (CMLA) was established at the École Normale Supérieure de Cachan. Three years later, Robert Azencott joined this research laboratory with his team—the DIAM(Department of Artificial Intelligence and Mathematics)—comprising around twenty researchers, the vast majority of whom were under thirty. In 1996, the MVA (Mathematics, Vision, and Learning) Master’s program was launched. We recount how AI developed from 1993 onwards, first at the CMLA and later at the Centre Borelli, thereby forming the genesis of deepika.
